flea market find
there’s nothing my family enjoys more than a treasure hunt. many hours have been spent rooting through stalls and thrift stores, not always successfully, but every now and then we find a gem.
when we first moved to los angeles we had the task of filling our new home with furniture. we have a passion for mid century furniture and our 1960’s Span house had been filled with it, so we set out to try and find some familiar pieces here.
over the years we have been collecting pieces safe in the knowledge that I can bring them back to life. one such piece was our plycraft chair.
firmly wedged in the back of a truck, under the rest of the unwanted items, we spotted it. after persuading the stall holder to climb up and unpack it, we triumphantly carried it off towards its new home. it had been well loved in its past life, but after a little cleaning and tweaking it was given pride of place.
a few years later I was gifted a delicious, buttery, teal hide - it complemented our space and the wood of the chair beautifully and so a new project was born.
our tired, beautiful chair with good bones was reinvented and given a new lease of life.
